Krakow, Poland: Where(2B) it All Began

As where2B works to expand its presence in other markets we would like to take a moment to look at where we came from in attempts to better understand where we are going.

It was back in 2005. The founder, Cory, was in between semesters studying abroad finding a bit too much time on his hands and squandering it on the hazy Krakow nightlife. It wasn't long before he identified a few issues and opportunities in nightlife industry.

Cory set out to launch a club night in the middle of the week that would rival weekend events and feature music that was unique and fresh. A lot of work was put into finding a venue, booking the right DJs, and promoting the night. Fortunately it turned out a success and the club night, Today is running to this day.

During this endeavor Cory was hindered at every step. Venues and DJs were not contactable due to irrational, poorly designed websites if they had one at all. There were no good wayto inform the right people about the event.

Answers to these issues blossomed into where2B.org and developed into a concept to allow DJs, clubs, and bands to easily market themselves while making it easy for their fans to find out when they will be where.

Now it is much easier to find and contact all the right venues and DJs in Krakow. Guests are able to browse events in Krakow in many of the best clubs in the city.

What is where2B

where2B is...
- the feeling that you get when you know there is no place you would rather be
- a way to find places that you will enjoy wherever you travel
- a way to know where your friends are going to be
- a means to encourage the most interesting event concepts
- a means to expose underground artists to the masses
- a way to discover new things based on the things you like
- a way to meet new people with similar interests

where2B.org is first and foremost an event listing service that allows anyone who is involved in the creation, execution, or performance of any type of an event to publicly list their event. But this is not just any listing. The event fields suggest profiles that exist already in the system or give you the option to add new profiles as you type. This creates links to all these other elements of an event like DJs, clubs, bands, or theaters to name a few. People browsing the events have an easy way to find out more about the, let's say, DJs appearing in the event, DJs who often are not well known enough to have a Wikipedia entry or their own website. And even if they did have either of those things where2B is unique because it provides a familiar format making it easier to discover all kinds of new things. Additionally, those profiles that were added to the event now have that event in their upcoming events making it a snap to find out where your favorite artists are playing next or where they played yesterday.

Our goal is not only making sure you don't miss great events in your home city, but anywhere you are in the world. The site has been built since it's first rebuild to automatically add new cities just as it adds new bands. As soon as a guest registers from a city that does not exist at where2B.org that city profile is added, just as adding a new band to an event creates a new profile for that band. Our team is at work linking profiles created in different languages so that when a guest is viewing a venue's event in English and it was created in Polish the city name will be displayed in English. where2B will allow people to travel and go out practically as knowledgeable as if they were in there own city, regardless whether it is the first time they step foot in the city or even if they speak the language.

An important part of the portal is how events are awarded points and recommended which often boosts even more those events chance at success. We use science and a complex equation to assign points based on the elements of an event and the order in which they are listed which have points based on things like number of people that like the profile and page views. However one of our mission statements is to promote interesting events and so there are factors included in the equation that reduces points for event elements that appear often and adds points for rarely occurring elements.

We are constantly at work improving the service and adding more features to enrich a guest's experience and positively impact success for a event creators at where2B.org. We love feedback and appreciate suggestions on ways to help us help you. Don't hesitate to contact us at feedback[at]where2B.org with what you think in regards to our goal of helping you to never miss that not-to-be-missed event.
